Local Bupivacaine Infiltration to Reduce Pain after Tonsillectomy: A Low Cost Approach

Introduction Tonsillectomy is one of the most commonly performed surgical procedures worldwide, with major drawback significant post operative pain.There no consensus regarding topical application or local infiltration anesthetics operatively to reduce pain. The present study was evaluate effect bupivacaine in tonsillar fossae after tonsillectomy. Materials and Methods A double-blinded clinical trial on 75 patients undergoing tonsillectomy between January 2019 2020. All underwent under general anesthesia were then randomly divided into 3 groups 25 each. For Group I, a swab soaked normal saline applied for 5 minutes just before extubation. In II, ml 0.5% placed minutes, while III, 5ml infiltrated fossae. intensity pain each group measured immediate op period, at6 hours, 24 hours 1 week by Wong Baker Faces Pain Rating Scale. Results There difference mean level I III at 6 hours. Although average scores better than those results only hour period. Conclusion To post-tonsillectomy pain,0.5% can be fossa.
